Americans don't follow soccer because we don't have time for something that is not the best. Let me explain.
We have the NFL, NBA, MLB, and the NHL. Those are the best leagues in the world for 4 different sports.
We also have MLS. Also known as Minor League Soccer. Nowhere near the best league in the world. Why would we waste our time and money on something that sucks by comparison to what the rest of the world has?
It's not that soccer is a bad sport. We just don't care about it. If the EPL started showing games on american cable stations, maybe soccer would draw more interest. If the best players in the world decided to start playing in the US, I guarantee you the people would show a lot of interest.

Soccer/Football has to be in the blood to appreciate the sport. If people think scores are everything, then soccer is not for them. Yeah, a draw or a win like 1-0 could be yawning for many who do not have the soccer spirit in them. For those who fail to understand this game, the same defensive tactics, keeping the ball in mid field and disallowing opponents for any offense are part and parcel of the game. Add in the amazing saves by the GK, poor defending, marking up players and incredible shots are the ones that bring excitement. So for Americans it has never come and it a yawn sport for them, but they do not mind watching them once in a while, but still they always compare with American sports and lay it to rest. Related to the hood, the sport needs to be brought ground up from little leagues to teens to young adults. Little leagues are there and enjoyed by parents and kids alike but teen and young adult is missing. Any sport is not about the color, but the spirit alone is good enough for more encouragement. Check back to 1994 world cup soccer event, almost everrymatch was sold out and check that with the recent world cup matches in South Africa.

We have the freedom to choose what we like to follow, participate and enjoy for sports.
I lived in spain for two years and all that was offered were bullfights or soccer to watch on television. The only time that some other program was played was when it came time for the world series, or superbowl etc. and that was in the middle of the night.
don't get me wrong, I do like soccer, bullfights but there are many other sports that I love as well. If I had my choice, I'd watch a lot more cycling but have to make sure that I can get the vs. channel for that.
Try looking for a bar or a group of people, like you, that enjoy soccer. it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Americans don't like losing, and if soccer was the most popular sport in teh country they would be putting all of that energy into doing something they still probably wouldn't dominate at.
They are best at baseball, US football, basketball, running, swimming etc

As you can see, many sports that the US watches came from the U.S. We have many physical sports, and americans love watching them. They like to settle back and drink a beer or two and root for their team. Just cause americans dont watch soccer more than all of our pasttimes, does not mean soccer is not a great sport.

Simply put...they don't score enough. Not enough contact. I don't follow hockey but the highlights are great. And hockey scores more points. The only time I followed soccer was when I knew someone on the field. And even then, I spent a lot of time at the concession stand. And when I returned the score was the same. I'm sorry but it's the truth.

because the US always was an isolationist country, wanting to be better than other, so creating a sport of their own made them feel superior. anyways, i love soccer better than football, but luckily here in DC we have the best fans ever, even though the redskins get more and better publicity than DC United.

Soccer is becoming more popular in the US. I have never seen a play in soccer as exciting as a "Hail Mary" or a sack.

I don't really know maybe it's cause we wouldn't be the best. It is a world sport really but the US doesn't really show our participation at least with in the media. I love Soccer I wish it would be shown on tv more often...
