I couldn't leave my God at home any more then I could leave any other part of my body at home. Jesus lives in me...he's a part of me.

Some people don't need a god or religion to be honest and kind and compassionate.
Unfortunately, if belief in a god is the ONLY thing that keeps people/politicians from doing the rest of us wrong, then by all means, keep believing in a god, lest someone innocent gets hurt..

No one in the U.S. has ever had religion forced upon them. We have the freedom of choice in the U.S. We have the right not to listen if we choose. There is no such thing as forcing religion on someone in the U.S. Some People are making way too much out of this to benfit their own ideologies. Believing in God is a good thing..when did it change to something bad? Whenever a Republican is voted into Office this debate comes up..why is that? Why is it even a debate?

Yes, I believe they should. Religion and politics should not mix. That is not to say that one's religion is not important, but politics ideally should not have this outside influence. Assuming your religion makes you a good person, you will be a good person on and off the job. Take the VALUES of your religion, perhaps, but the specific beliefs and practices of your religion belong in the church/temple, not in the office.

Having beliefs are a good thing. It is when you take your religous views and press them on other people that they become offended. Being a compassionate, honest, and kind person is one thing, but saying that God compels you to be that kind of person kind of oversteps the boundary and makes you seem like you are pressing your beliefs on other pople. You just have to be respectful of other's religous views. That doesn't necessarily mean dropping your belief in God just to please other people, it means holding to them while minding the fact that other people have their own.

I think its ok to follow ur belief system...unfortunately politicians and others also feel it is ok to force that belief system on others because they think they have the monopoly on being "right". That is not ok. Look at the "debates" on controversal issues like gay weddings and abortion and you can see where I am coming from. Decent standards of behaviour eg, being polite, fair and honest are nothing to do with religion thats just being a nice human being.

Politicians swear to uphold the Constitution of the United States. If they are unable to do this in favor of upholding a religious book, they should not be in politics.

No. There is no way for one to "leave their religion" or, to be more expansive, "leave their value system" at home. I agree with you; spirituality is not something that can be demarcated and compartmentalized. It is a part of us and can not be "left home."
