All i see around me is people consumed by the need to do shopping, for food, presents, clothes and so many other things. Dont get me wrong i like to cook a good christmas lunch and will also buy food and maybe a gift or 2 for my immediatte family but thats just it i want o spend it with my family. I have been living in London for the past 6 months and i am working until the 24thof December so i had no time to do anything but what makes this christmas special is that my boyfriend came all the way from South Africa to spend it with me and even if we must eat sandwitches for christmas this year will be my best christmas ever.

For me, the meaning is still there. But like others I have been an a rush to get things done and my digs are in shambles. Big deal, I have enjoyed this Christmas like a child with a day's free pass to a sweet shop!

These two phrases are pretty much how it started and what it was really meant to be. But you can thank capitalist corporate America for turning it into a monkey show due to greed. Anything religious and popular will be hunted down and skewered for the sake of the almighty green, and religion makes more money than anything else combined.

You can also thank the stupidity of most people for being sheep, and easily herded on this non stop parade.

Merry Christmas, and screw everyone else who tries to spoil it for you the way you want to have it!

For starters,Christmas has become too commercialised.Everything is in stores way too early, and the adverts from the end of October are near enough all for Christmas.Food, toys, alcohol etc.
Nobody gives a present these days, for the sake of giving. All they want is to see what they get in return.
People putting up their decorations at the beginning of December has helped to take away that Christmas feeling.
I would love to know why people have to go over the top with food at Christmas,as so much of it gets wasted through greed.
I only buy what i need, and maybe a few treats thrown in.
My children always give me a list of presents they would like for Christmas, and they're never over expensive, and they aren't disappointed if they don't get what they wanted.

Funny you should say that I feel exactly the same. not just people shopping for the best presents or how much food they can force themselves to eat over two days "yes folks its only two days like a weekend there goes gluttony" but Ive noticed a definite decline in houses with crimbo lights and decorations.
I put this down to more people taking leave of our pleasant tradition for the winter holiday instead an idea I put to my wife this year who agrees entirely as she said our children have grown and have their own family Christmas now. A present to ourselves. missing now is the sparkle it used to have the older you get the more you grow out of Christmas its for children adults get to do the donkey work that's why the sparkles gone. my only sorrow is how many children today know the real meaning of Christmas?

It is an annual event, which has some tradition if it exists in your religion. It is celebrated by nothing more than a gorging on food and drinking too much. Sometimes people give each other gifts, which are neither welcome nor what you want.

Consider spending Christmas on your own. Buy or make yourself presents only, and cook yourself a dinner. Drink at your own pace, and do whatever you like.

As far as I can tell it seems to be about control. Who has it, and who does not. It is supposed to be about the birth of an illegitimate child, born out of wedlock in a stable. Apparantly, they were travelling by donkey to the place of their birth to pay some taxes. Does anyone believe such a load of nonsence?

Who in their right mind would travel by donkey at Christmas to go and pay taxes at the place of the birth. Everything would be shut on Christmas day, and so it would be a pointless excercise.

Christmas to so many is part of living in the material world. It is all sprinkled with gold dust to participate in the tradition but forgetting the true meaning of Christmas, celebration of Christ being born.
I see few children in today's day an' age speaking of Christ. It's I want this and I want that. So many children have expectations and so many parents fall into debt yet the parents caused this by rearing children to be materialistic. We all want to give our children what they want but society creates an extra burden with the expectations from children-then the parents try to fulfill this so a vicious circle really. Unless children are reared to understand that love is the best gift to give then they won't understand that until they have grown enough to discover it for themselves. Parents have contributed toward creating the material world by masking love with gifts, out of love for love but it has been done in a twisted and messed up way because it is only creating more materialism, the true meaning of Christmas getting lost in there somewhere ;)

I wish you a Merry Christmas-if you are surrounded by love then nothing else is needed xxx

It has lost all meaning, all it is for now is so familys see each other and kids enjoy themselves.

Either way your Christmas sounds extra special and you sound so much in love that your enjoy it anyway.

Have a lovely christmas!

Parents are pressurised to buy expensive gifts for their children and it is the people who can't afford it who buy their kids the most expensive gifts.
Yes Christmas in Britain has almost lost it's meaning.

Long distance boyfriend arrived?
Food on your table when others may be without?
You have given gifts in love of others?

Yours is the spirit of Christmas!
Ignore the rest!
