And now instead of a clean and almost limitless energy supply we have filthy fumes and demands for energy restriction. I hate them so much!

That's their job, to betray us.

The problem with nuclear energy is twofold: it is not clean if you include the problem of disposing of the waste, and it is not as limitless as you might think. An excellent book called "the end of fossil energy and a plan for sustainability" estimates that there might be about 40 years' of nuclear fuel available.

I do agree that our politicians betrayed us, for sure, but by relying on fossil fuel instead of solar and wind power, possibly geothermal, tidal, and CONSERVATION! In addition to developing alternative, clearn and limitless sources of energy, we can reduce drastically what we use. Transporting raspberries from Chile instead of growing them in a backyard hothouse is an example. Eating more Tofu instead of cows, which require many more barrels of oil to bring to the table, is another. Developing more mass transit (buses, trains)...

There is nothing clean about atomic energy. It creates a waste product that is harmful to life for a millennium. Since creating energy requires a chemical reaction, any kind of energy creation will alter the environment.
There simply is no such thing as a clean energy fuel, only those that are less harmful than others.

Yes they did betray us - and the environment and the global economy is now paying the price.

That is exactly what happens when politicians bow to pressure rather than doing what they know is right.

Calls for "recall" legislation will only make matters worse - the worlds most pwerful nations need stronmg and honest leaders who will do what is right - regardless of public opinion.

We were lucky that we had President Reagan and Prime Minsiter Thatcher at the time of the downfall of Communism. If only we had leadership with such honesty and courage now.

What about legislation to prevent the big engines from getting used in the USA? this alone would have helped. Do we all really need the SUV at the cost of new wars and other damage?
