Hi, I just recently got the depo shot and I am 24 years old. I wasn't sure which birth control to use, but I chose that without reading up on it and now that I read all about it, it scares the crap outta me. So does anyone know how much the side effects will effect me just being on it for the 3 months it lasts? How many people actually lose hair? And I've had cramps since I got it but no bleeding....yet.

Depo affects everyone differently. I was on it for seven years, and the only symptoms that I had were weight gain, and no periods the whole time. I would say that if you are just on it for birth control, and no other reason than stop taking it. If you are having a problem with painful heavy periods, stay on it. It was a life saver for me! The only big thing is that if you want to start having children anytime soon, you should plan on being off the shot for a year before. It took me a year, and three days after my last injection to get my periods back!
