when i turn on the laptop without power supply (battery dependent only) nothing happens. when the power supply is plugged in (and i have tried it with the battery both connected and disconnected), it turns on but then goes off immediately. is the problem with the external power supply (adapter) or the one inside the laptop itself?

in any case, does anyone know where i can get parts to fix the problem? the laptop is a LG LS50, and im in Sydney, Australia. thanks

It's not the power supply since it behaves oddly with the power supply disconnected (providing your battery is fully charged).
I had this problem and it was because a fan was not working, it turned out to be shutting down because of the CPU temp. Flip it upside down and look at the fans through the vents. Turn the laptop on. If the fans do not start to turn (there is most likely more than one) fix or replace the fans. It should stay on at that point. Don't do what I did and rig it up so it works, I now need a new laptop LOL

Have you tried a different external adapter?
I had a similar problem with my laptop and the result was my interior power supply was "blitzed".

I would say it is your internal power supply, but there is evidence of other problems...
It can be as simple as a bad (wiring) connection.

This is a very common problem with many laptop computers. They tend to get moved around way more than a desktop, wires get bent and re-bent and eventually they develop a short. Laptops' boards also can become damaged due to plugging in and unplugging the power supply too. The power plug housing on the mobo could have become a bit loose and is not getting a good connect also. It's a process of elimination really.
