No, but when I was 12, the teacher moved my desk into the cloakroom because I was such a disturbance. I was always clowning around. She left the door open so I could still hear the lesson. Some things never change.

We had Finger on lips, stand in the corner and hands on head for minor punishments. Next step up was a slipper to the backside and then the final level was cane to the palms of the hand. Could hold a pen for 2 days and got punished again for not doing any work. My age range unbelievably was between 7 and ten years old for these punishments. School was in Southall Middlesex.

At infants school there were various punishments.Standing in the corner with hands on heads.Children had their mouths washed out with soap for swearing.I remember bullies having to wear a notice on a piece of string round their necks with the word BULLY written in large letters.Chatterers had sticky tape put across their mouths..Children were smacked on the tops of their legs and even round the head and not lightly either! The same sort of treatment went on at junior school but the teachers there would give the kids the ruler instead.Boys were canned ,not girls at that time.Although My Mother was Canned at school 80 years ago.We must have had a bit of sense by the time we got to Grammar School as I don't remember anyone being physically punished there. The Secondary Modern girls school was similar, but the boys was a different matter they had the cane there ,and the teachers didn't think twice about giving them a clip round the ear .Teachers used to throw chalk and chalk board cleaners at you .When I think back 55years ago it was barbaric .We just accepted it as the way life was.Don't anyone tell me they were the good old days

In 1st grade my teacher made me stand in the corner. I culdn't stop crying and i wanted to go home to my mommy. I can't remember what i did though. I was probably talking too much with other students.
But she didn't tell me to put my fingers on my lips, that's weird. I have never heard of that...

Finger on my lips? No.
stand in the corner? only once.
(I was seven, and blamed for robbing a classmate's lunch. Despite my vehement protestations, I was deemed guilty. The next day, the classmate's mother explained to the teacher that she forgot to put her daughter's lunch in her bag the day before. Naturally, no apologies for me.)
