You don't have to be a Scrooge to be dissatisfied with what Christmas has become for some folk.

I find it much more fulfilling because I am more interested in its spiritual meaning nowadays.

And as a youngster so many years ago there was a feeling of wonderment because here in the northern hemisphere we were just getting over the war years and also not only were some items unavailable but many foods were seasonal and so only available around winter time. There was an opportunity to have a celebration that was 'special' because it was not usually available.

Having said that I would not wish to go back to a time when there was some deprivation and hardship. We now enjoy a longer healthier physical life. All we really need to do is sort out the 'spiritual' side of the season. Other countries manage to celebrate festivals of a religious or national state without the headlong rush to spending and excessiveness.

Peace and happines to you.

I'm a scrooge like you...LOL.

The holiday has become so materialistic it's unbelievable. I mean we can't get through the Thanksgiving holiday and the stores are cramming Christmas stuff down our throats as we walk down the aisles of the stores.

I have absolutely no Christmas spirit.

I'm gonna sleep and eat and be depressed.

There's definitely no fun in it anymore.
People may think I'm a bit of a scrooge,as i never go over the top at Christmas.I buy only what i need, although my children would love me to buy everything going.Whats the point though, when so much food gets wasted.
I do feel guilty at times,but it's my money I'm thinking about,and i don't want money problems haunting me for years.I am pretty lucky i think,`cause i don't have credit / store cards,so if i don't have the money,then i go without.

I love Christmas! What's not to love. Even (some) of those who don't believe in Christ find themselves being happier. It's a season of good cheer. People find themselves doing for others that they can't seem to find the time for during the rest of the year. Don't get me started on the children! It is so wonderful to see their eyes filled with such joy, anticipation and wonder.

Christmas can never be overrated; people may do things to make it crazy; can't blame the event and the message; change starts with one ; don't like it change it by making Christmas more about reflection , love, sharing than the best gift ever; we already have the best gift,Jesus.

I've learned to ignore the TV and the hype and just make my own family celebration; I've assimilated the bits I like (the tree and twinkle lights, a special meal) and just opted out of all the rest.
