the US is a threat

Bush is a threat. An alarming number of Americans (who see themselves and MY country as the savior of the World) are a threat. There is an intellectual minority (Noam Chomsky et al) who let reason prevail and realize that to be American is not special - to be altruistic, without regard to race, color, county of origin, etc., is indeed divine. (A necessary corollary to this is that a person need not be considered special just because they are from another country).

P.S. (To JayJay - when this country was formed slavery was explicitly and legally recognized - this country was founded on the ideal of material wealth - the crap about human rights in this country is but a facade to please the small minority of intellectual constituents who would have otherwise begun a civil war. Also meant to appease the International community - but never meant to be enforced (i.e. no true concern here in US for welfare of others unless there is profit involved.)

The U.S. is the U.S.--following it's best interest like all the other countries.
Should we try to be noble when the rest of the world couldn't care less?
Many other countries are waiting for us to be distracted long enough to further their own agenda.
To be a force for "good", we would have to get an agreement from the other countries as to what exactly is "good".
It wont happen.---Is Democracy good? --Is separation of church and state "good"?--Are Christian morals "good"?--Are small, weak armies "good".--cheap oil?--free air space? free trade?
"World stability" hasn't existed in my lifetime and I'm 73 yrs. old.
In order to be a leader, others have to recognize you as the leader: but in today's world, even very small countries thumb their nose at us.
You can't blame it all on Bush. Other countries who no longer need us to protect them from Communism, are now in fear of ,and envious of our power. Now these countries would like to shame us into submission.

WAVE Q---You make it sound like only America is furthering it's own interests.Do you know of other countries that are not?

The United States is more bank than stabilizer! The U.S. pays 25% of the U.N. bills, houses the U.N. and its contents, and the U.S. is the scape goat for the world. i.e. the leaders in the U.N. unhappy with the situation in their homeland accuse and abuse the hospitality of the United States to further their own power.

Mr. Bush is a threat to world stability, but his term will expire. Don't forget that the US sends more dollars worldwide then anyone to help things like food and water, disease prevention and a lot of other improvements all around the world.

The USA was formed based on the assumption of individual freedom and human rights. Its political infrastructure, although flawed, is intended to spread its philosophy of freedom and human rights throughout the world and, however, is incorrectly interpreted as an invasion of the personal or religious values of other nations.

The USA is both. What it truly is, is a manifestation of Corporate desires to impose their interest on other countries.
American political parties divorced from the constraints of political fund raising and the consequent favours owed, would definitely be a positive influence in the world.
As it is- it pursues no other interest aside from those for its own benefit.
