Why not take a plane to Mexico? It would be faster. Also, why Mexico? Why not Canada? They speak English in Canada.

Political propagandas, they are basically saying Mexico is where crooks go.

In real life, people go to Mexico because it's less of a police state than the USA and Canada. Crooks, poor, pollitical activitists, all are welcome as long they pay tribute and don't make trouble.

Cuba is also a prefered destination to escape the USA.

As for planes.

Planes are easy to track and hunt.

But the easiest way to escape is on foot, a car attracted too much attention. Another easier way than a car is using a boat.

Are you kidding? If you are wanted you can't just get on a plane.
People hide in Mexico. It's difficult for Americans to arrest wanted
people in Mexico.

The closest place to the US where its citizens can enter easily is Mexico. The rule of law in Mexico is, let's just say, attractive to anti-social elements who can't hide in the US. Canada is as strict as the US when it comes to dealing with people fleeing form police.

Cars might be more conveinient than plans if you're on the run, not to mention easier to steal, and cheaper to operate. Mexico and the US do not have an extradition agreement, so it's more difficult for the US to extract criminals. Canada and the US do have an extradition agreement.

1) because police would never let them get on a plane and take off

2) because its not that hard to shoot a plane down and kill whoever's inside.

3) Why mexico? because they're close to the border. No one's pullin any hiest's in Washington or Montana.
