I ask because of robin hood and the crippling tax system which once supported the upper-classes; some money today goes to the lower-classes, like relief.

Down.

The only reason really offered for raising taxes has to do with "redistribution of wealth". If that objective is desired, then there about a million better ways to do that other than raising taxes.

And let me point out the negative impact of raising taxes - you lose the motivation to work hard. Of all the crazy ideas in the world, why would someone want to remove the drive and motivation from the group of citizens that do the producing?

Taxes are too extreme and should be reduced or wages should be increased simple as that . The two dont balance each other so people are being left skint . For example , im self employed and in Jan I have to pay £2,500 on taxes .....For what I ask 40% of my hard earnt earnings to go where . Into the governments pocket thats where .

if you think the welfare rats are livin good in the hood you should have a look at the beneficiaries of corporate welfare. And btw, have a look at the money spent on "relief" in comparison to what they spend on high end corporations too.

Silly G is right. As long as we are talking instead of doing then they will go up and up.

I believe that if we want something then we have to pay for it. If that means we get taxed to the hilt then so be it,.

My gripe is on the amount of benefits and compensation we, the tax payer have to fork out.

There has to be a fairer system so that if people are too damn idle to go to work, then they don't receive benefits...They should be made to contribute to society if they cant financially.
Get them scrubbing graffiti off walls or chewing gum off pavements for their benefit giro's.

And stop compensating criminals in jail.....They are in jail cause they breached someone else's human rights...therefore, they fore fit their own!...Who cares if they have to wee into a bottle or sh!t into a bucket...They're big and ugly enough to clean up after themselves....

OK...Now that's off my chest...Merry Christmas and Goodwill to all!
