Of course! The help files are always really helpful if you get stuck doing something specific, but I learnt most of photoshop and illustrator by just playing around with it and experimenting. -This might not be the best method if you have a time limit, but don't be intimidated by it (I know too many people who are, for some reason...) & remember the program is set out so that it's easy to use.

yes you can learn directly, if you have knowledge about computer programs and some help from either book or a tutor.
