Drug prohibition is the BIGGEST problem facing this country. The problem is that when people know nothing about something they just believe what they have been told by the government, news, ect. Of course drugs are harmful no duh, making this deadly addictive substances illegal does nothing to limit their supply all it does is put crimminals in control of the distribution. Everyone in this country must make a decision whether or not to use drugs. If someone is dumb enough to use drugs knowing the harm they cause they obviously are not going to be deterred by the fact that they are illegal. It is an undisputable fact that making drugs illegal has done nothing to reduce drug use. The exact same precentage of Americans use drugs today as before they were illegal. In the Netherlands Marijuana is legal and the Precentage of people who smoke it is the same as in the U.S. Drug prohibition has no positive benifit. I don't mean that drugs should be sold in grocery stores, but drug maintainence clinics should be set up to put dealers out of business and the crime associated with them. Also drug maintainence clinics would put an end to crime that is commited by addicts like robbery, burglery, shoplifting, ect. People actually believe that if addicts were provided with a safe supply of drugs that every American would start using drugs. That is incredible stupid. Wake up America the war on drugs has claimed more lives then all other wars of the 20th century combined and we have nothing to show for it. Watch the news some time it's not drug crime it is drug prohibition crime. Addicts do not commit crimes because they get high and lose control, they commit crime because making drugs illegal has increased the price of drugs to incredible levels. Dealers kill each other in the street and anyone else in the way. Prisons are filled with non-violent people. We spend billions on cops who do nothing and have zero impact. We need to except the reality that drugs are available to anyone who wants them and they will ALWAYS be available no matter what we do. That idiot who said something about China is a moron China has a hugh drug problem the only reason it is different from ours is they have a different culture. Drug prohibition is killing this country, but like most things ignorant people will likely continue to believe what they are told and the rest of us will have to live with the consequences.

Thats possibly the dumbest thing I have ever read! Dope pusher's like yourself are always trying to justify thier habbit. Druggies deserve to be in jail, and if thier cell mates with rapists, murders, and molesters then so be it. Thats exactly were a criminal belongs. JAIL!!!! I have seen first hand what drugs can do to families. Your liberal thinking and bashing of republicans is a pathetic attempt. Drugs kills children, adults, and ruins lives. Im sure you will say well so does alcohol, and I dont dispute that. I suggest you focus on more important things besides defending a dead beat addiction that will get you nowhere real quick!

I am guessing you most have be home schooled bucause certain drugs like cocaine, lsd, etc... have been illegal for nearly 100 years. That is scarry that you blame Reagan for that. Otherwise I would point out most drugs aren't illegal they are regulated by agencies like FDA. Last time I checked the the market cap of Merck was still larger than the entire value of illegal drug trafficing in the world. Heck did you see that payout of $180 to 200 million to that former exec at Pfizer (wow is their money to bad in drugs) http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/061221/pfizer_mckinnell.html?.v=14
Until the make asprin illegal - guy - give it up!!!
Good Luck to you and Happy Holidays!!!

Your question is too "open-ended". Should we make cocaine legal? No way. Meth? I hope not.
I really can't say that someone in possession of a kilo of cocaine is in a position of trying to only better his own life.
Now, change the talk to pot, and you might make some good arguements...but even then, it comes down to where do we draw the line.
I really think you would be challenged to show us 10 cases where a guy is caught with a single joint and is now serving time next to a murderer.

I believe that your views are not reflective of most of your community.
I also agree with other person who sated that soft drug-users invariably look for harder-drugs which then turn these users into a major social problem.
FACT: Many of the current prisons are crammed with former drug users who committed a crime either for furtherance of their habit or under influence of their habit.
FACT: Society has no pity for drug-users and wishes to punish them severely for breaking laws that society supports.
FACT: Illicit drug-users are invariably involved in a crmiinal enterprise to fund their drug-use.
My opinion is that the root causes of drug-use should be tackled, along with prisoner drug-rehab, and with targetting drugs as an economic phenomena and attack supply so severely that it no longer becomes viable.
Currently, the drug war tends to be fragmented. The US is paying millions to stop the drugs in their Country of Origin- but major issue is how to eradicate them as much as possible from the Ports Entry.
I believe mandatory death sentences for dealers, traffickers and pushers as well as prison rehab and training (I mean practical training, especially providing labour for community projects, public infrastructure etc., not paying them to study law so they can then try to work out how to get out of prison).
We have to make prisoners so damn tired from work- they haven't got the time or energy to even think about drugs.

No brainer....YES. Because lets say for example that pot was legalized, then people would be hooked for awhile then they would move on to look for a harder drug. Making drugs damn near lethal.

Nope. Let the heroin addicts have all they want, the coke-heads and crack-heads too. Let all the tweens OD on x and alcohol. Just let me have my weed, it smells bad but it won't kill me as fast as that other sh*t will kill the rest.
