Water is not flowing in the tank? Check to make sure there is no water pressure loss in the bathroom (run the faucet, etc.)

The most likely problem is that the valve arm that runs the water tap inside the tank is misaligned. Lift up the toilet tank. You will see that the flush handle is connected to an arm that lifts the flush valve at the bottom of the tank. When you push the handle down, the arm lifts the valve up and water flows down the toilet.

There is another structure that sits upright in the toilet tank. Connected to this should be whats called the float arm. As water flows out the tank, the float arm descends which opens a valve on the upright structutre which allows water to flow back into the tank. That float arm is the thing that might be the problem. Check to see if it is cracked, misaligned, or whatever. Often it is just a case of "jiggling" it until it moves back in place. You can lift and push it down manually to see if it is controlling the water inflow as it should.

The main cause of this problem is the flapper. That is, the large round piece of rubber that covers the drain hole in the bottom of the tank. Make sure it securely covers the hole when the toilet is flushed. If it does't the tank will not fill up and the toilet will keep "running". You may need a new flapper, but for now you may have to "manually" place the flapper over the hole every time you flush. Not to worry, it is incredibly easy to replace, and any home hardware place will help you.

By filling up, I take this to mean water in your tank. The first thing is to check to make sure your water is NOT turned off. If it is turn it on. The next thing to check is your float system located inside of your water tank. The float could be stuck in a closed position. This being unstuck it allowing the float to drop down. The system should run fine after that. You may need to replace the float system totally. Other than that I cannot think of anything else. Again this is in reference to water NOT getting into your tank. No water and it won't run. Sorry, Good Luck. MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR.

The washer in the ball valve has probably disintegrated and is blocking the water flow. Depends on what type of ball valve cistern you have but they are easy to replace. Sometimes it is easierr to replace the ball valve type with the latest which is even easie to fit and is fairly cheap. Buy from Plumb Center or Travis Perkins. Ask when you buy how to fit and get some PTFE tape for the joint at the same time.
Happy Christmas.

i dont know how old your toilet is .. if its very modern it will have no overflow ..it will then have the latest type filler system .. i expect it to be the old type ..so lift lid of system and see if ball valve has stuck in the up position..just push it down slowly and water should start to flow ..make sure it does not stick

1. make sure the tap is on

2. open the top lid to the cistern and make sure the plunger is down (sometimes things get stuck inside, jiggle it around)

Emergencies: Pour a bucket or pot of water down the toilet after each use
