i work nights, and there are days i should be tired, but i just can't sleep. i have tried all kinds of things, but my latest is this... i get home and make myself some hot cocoa (or anything warm and decaf). i sip that while i read the paper, then get ready for bed. the warm beverage will raise your core temperature temporarily and make you sleepy. it has been working for me most days, so i say just give it a try. what can it hurt?
