sort-of

Hibernation saves the current state of the pc from the RAM to your HDD - when the pc starts up it reloads the RAM from the HDD - whatever your pc could do when sent to hibernation it will do when it reloads...hope this helps

I use hibernate more than normal shutdowns.

The computer comes back on exactly the way it was when put into hybernation. A full reboot is needed to restore all default settings.
Hybernation is mainly used if you have to quit what you are doing before finished. (ie; composing a letter)

Bruce,
Hibernation is generally useful for Laptops, it gets u back all the things where u left on last time. Exception is when you are not changing ur Network after powering on back from hibernation, cas it may change or may look for the old settings, as they were while hibernating.

Yes. It is useful because It helps you to continue working on the same files after some time. When you hibernate, all the files and programs that you are working on get saved in the hard disk and then when you switch on the computer, it reads from the Hard Disk.

Using it on a desktop more than once a week will cause your hard drive, ram chips, and possibly motherboard to fail without warning. I used to use it on my old laptop but it caused the hard-drive ram CPU, motherboard and battery to fail simultaneously without warning burst into flames despite the painstaking fail-safe measures normally built into computers.

The settings come back just as they were before hibernation.
