Nearly everywhere I go on the Internet, I hear people complain about British politics or the politics of their home nation.
That is their right, their freedom and I am not going to attack that. Never.
However, that is what most people just do. Complain. Some complaints are so vicious I find myself thinking "why bother?"
If some of these people are so fed-up, why are they sitting at home doing nothing?
Democracy gives them a chance to vote in and vote out governments. If people actually voted and took time to look behind the smoke-screen then half the problems would just go.
Democracy allows people to organise their own political parties, get elected either on a national or local level and actually changes things for the better.
So, my question to everyone, both complainers and non-complainers:

If you're really that fed-up and annoyed with how things are where you live, why do you not do something about it and either vote or get yourselves elected and do things properly?

that's what I've been wondering too, I'm so tired of complaints

I have Russian friends who complain about their government A LOT, and when I say "why don't you try change the situation, create your own party, get into parliament?", they say "what? it's all corrupted"

for me it's either do something about that or stop complaining!

I agree. Its not just about this, I see it alot when people complain about illegal immegrants. They want them OUT but they are not willing to DO anything! People that can sit and complain usually are well off and their country is a decent home. Thats the price youhave to pay, DOING something. People excpect the government to solve all their problems, and wonder why the government cant to do so without the help and aid of its citizens. If you don;t like an official VOTE (a ton of people dont vote, but if you took that right away, they would be the first to complain) if you don't like something START A PETITION! if you don;t like illegal immegrants, start an organization, if you think your country is protected enough JOIN THE ARMY! The government simply does not have enough man power to do everything themselves

I agree. Back in the 50's 60's and 70's people formed pressure groups with like minded people to get their voices heard, but the backbone seems to have gone out of Britain and these days people accept anything done to them and only complain to no effect.

I always vote at elections and by-elections but round here eveyone else votes Labour - even if a chimp was to stand with a red t shirt on they would vote for it!

I am a native Caucasian British and I do have a PhD in politics- so I will explain this to you.
Democracy does not always work. Your views of democracy have been extremely warped by years of American propaganda
Democracy does NOT allow you to choose your own parties- you have to vote for the parties that are eligible to be voted for.
In the UK, were we have Liberal Democrats, Labour, Tory, BNP and a few others, polling always indicates people will choose one of the two major parties.
Furthermore- it is highly financial limiting to form one's own political party and then how does one find the membership, the staffing and all the rest of it to make it viable? Because of the massive financial limitations, minor parties cannot dream to equal a major in campaigning and thus also loose potential votes. It's a wonderful theory to start your own party- but the practical application of that theory is extremely and intentionally difficult.
It's a fact that major parties over the years have instituted electoral rules which hinder the development of small parties.

Then let us ask what is the alternative to a ruling party in a two party-system?
Always the Opposition, who are as bad, if not worse than the incumbent, in which case it one votes for the lesser of the two evils.
Were voters to choose a minor party such as the Lib-Dems or BNP- most likely these parties would not be able to gather enough votes alone to defeat any bill/legislation presented to parliament (house of reps/congress) proposed by the two major parties. Furthermore, coalition between the smaller parties seems very remote as they stand on very different policies/platforms.
Now if that above bill were in the interests of the two major parties, and not the minors, it would still be passed by members of the major Opposition group voting in favour of a numerically less viable ruling Party

The real issue is that elected officials have completely discarded the interests of their respective represented constituency in order to pursue vested interests of the major party mechanism, which tend to be financial and related to favours owed to big money loaned to them for their electoral victory.

I'llbe voting to make a difference because I'll vote BNP. I don't really care for their attitudes on immigration but I do want to see the criminal buggers be punished severely and in accordance with community views on justice rather than the Socialist dogma imposed by detached-from-reality judges.
I have also started a net petition calling on Mr Blair to be tried for Cultural Genocide on Online Petitions.com.
There you will see many other people trying to do their bit to make the world a better place by lobbying their lazy representatives.

Agree with you 100%, some people are just too lazy to vote but like to talk a lot.
No wonder other countries say Britain is full of moaners.

The people that you speak of are professional victims waitng for the Great White Father in Washington to take care of them. They will not take care of themselves and are addicted to self defeating behavior. Other people go about their lives taking care of business with no time spent whining.
