No, MDF gives off very toxic fumes down to the glues used.

When you Cut MDF it gives off very fine powder which with the glue that holds it all together is very bad for the lungs. The long term problems have not as yet come to light as it has not been around long enough for them to show up. It is thought that it is another disaster, as with the Asbestos which took 30 years to manifest itself, among the workers that made the stuff and tradesmen that used it for kitchens and wardrobes etc. To burn it as with asbestos would probably release the toxins from the glue as well as the fine dust of the fibres. This could spread the effect far and wide. A good question and I will read other answers with interest.
Have a happy Christmas.

Hello,

MDF is made from waste wood or finely chipped wood and then compressed and glued together into a solid material. Which means it would produce some pretty nasty toxic chemicals & gases and substances when burnt.

**It can be burnt safely if it is done in the right way or correctly.

**If its burnt inside an incinerator or burnt outside were any fumes would escape into the air.

But definately DONT burn in a domestic fire place, or on a normal household harth, or in a confined space with poor ventilation. i.e. in doors.

You are correct that varnished, lacquered, stained, painted, and especially pressure treated wood can give off toxic fumes and shouldn't be burned, inside or out, nor should it ever be used as a fuel source to cook food over. Same goes for any manufactured wood product, such as plywood, particle board, OSB (oriented strand board), and MDF (medium density fiberboard) because of the adhesives used.

YES and I am surprised at some of these other answers. They make baby's cots out of MDF for god's sake. You can take political correctness and safety fascism just a little TOO far, sometimes.

Just burn it. I wouldn't stand inhaling the fumes, but I am sure you are adult enough not to do that anyway.
