Very nasty business injured knees.
I had a surgeon explain it to me once (I suffered a severe knee injury in a car crash) that if we walked on four legs like a dog or whatever, then we could rest the injured limb for a bit. Our problem is that at any one time our entire weight is supported by either one or the other of our legs, and our knees take the brunt of it too.
The most likely cause of your pain is not the bone but the torn ligament - how on earth did you mange to do it? "Sprains & pains" is my terminolgy for it and they are the ultimate worst for causing pain and also the ultimate hardest to clear up. Broken bone - no probs, 6 weeks and you're away. Nice juicy cut - few stitches, same again 6 weeks to clear. Soft tissue injuries - months & months, if ever!
It never hurts to express your feeling to your doctor or physio. They often appear blase about things, but I suppose they've seen it all before. They are caring people, even if they don't seem it at times. If you talk to them, they will talk to you.
Good luck and just keep smiling.

doctors are sometimes a little blunt. the thing is the tibia is the main weight bearing bone in your lower leg, so it will hurt quite abit after such a drastic injury, your ligament has alittle, if any, blood or oxygen or even elasticity, it is reponsible for holding and joining bone to bone so when you tear it or stretch it, it can take a real long time to heal and the joint will never be the same. i dont know about rehab, but the only way you can help yourself is to get some glucosamine sulphate which is good for the connective tissues so it should help with your healing and train the muscles around it because then there wont be so much dependance on the ligament to hold the bones together, as the muscles can help. also exercise can increase bone density so training along with calcium intake is gonna hopefully get you better sooner. your physio should have given you some exercises but if not ask them.
im really sorry i cant help more, but i hope that it has given you a better understanding on whats going on? x

Have you spoke to the Physio? Why not try and speak to the surgeon who carried out the operation, or get a second opinion.

Typical doctors.
Sounds like your bone has set wrong and may be causing friction in the joint - therefore causing the pain!
If you've got the cash, go private - if not, write a letter of complaint.
