I feel you are stressed out and that is the cause, it is of no use looking for an answer to insomnia. You must go to the cause.

Do you have help with three childrenn?
Any friends who are also needing help that you could have their childre for a time and she yours to get a break
Try and not close your eyes, you must fight not closing your eyes. the brain gets fed up and so sleep comes.
Have a bath with lavender essential in it 5 drops and the water swished around and then bed after that. Get a proper timetable for bed so your body gets used to doing that and then hopefully you won't need tablets.

You say you have taken a high dose, that is the cause. Give them up and try something different and if you can't sleep get out of bed and go for a walk even round the house but no work. Just wander.

L-Tryptophan 2-3 500 mg caps 30 minutes before bed.
Don't bother with the 5-HTP version. Rarely works. Get the original.
Don't take more than 60 days without also taking a broad spectrum amino acid group supplement, because prolonged use of high doses of just one amino acid can upset your amino acid balance profile.

id recommend lavender too, get some of the essential oil and put a couple of drops on your pillow. have a warm bath and/oir some quiet time even if its just half an hour before bed..no tv,music etc then. if all that fails see the dr , he may be able to give you something gentle to help you sleep.

hot baths, lavender are good for relaxing but with 3 kids your asking a lot ;-) maybe see your doctor for help with this and if you can catch up on sleep when kids at school ect or ask if your parents can take the kids for a night and have a night off

You need to be tested at a hospital for complications related to insomnia. See a doctor. Your mother can look after the kids for a night.

you have built up a tolerance to those. Try kava kava or chamomille, or just stop taking anything for awhile. I would think chasing around 3 kids would make you tired lol!
