To me, being a close friend has a far deeper meaning than being a great friend. One can be a great friend without being a close one. A close friend, to me, is one I can share mostly everything with, even the corniest ideas and jokes - one I can cry my eyes out to, one I can trust and depend on in times of need, one who's always there for me in happy or sad times. A close friend may or may not be that great, but you still accept the person as he/she is. He / she is the one close to your heart even if he/she is not that great.
