Depends. If it was family Christmas dinner, I would basically have to be on my DEATH bed. If it's friends or church though, the best I used was that I was going to visit relatives I haven't seen in 6 years.

i hate my in laws so there have been a few:

'i think the baby has chicken pox'
'i have food poisoning'
'my grandmother died'

I've pretended to sprain my ankle, I've driven onto the freeway- pulled over and called saying that the car has broken down, i even pretended we went on holidays.

Those have been some of the good ones that I've gotten away with over the years- now i just start drinking early in the day and deal with her!

I think I am going into labor. It worked, I didn't have my baby till January 9th.

my boyfriend was dying...well of course he only had a cold but he reckoned he was at deaths door so thats what i said..............
