My boyfriend currently rents his home from his boss. She's his late best friend's daughter, married to the president of a petroleum engineering company, & originally gave him a job to help him out when he lost his last job. B/c it's his late best friend's daughter, business & friendship were mixed together from the beginning. Which, in my opinion, is never good. After his lease expired for his apartment, she bought a house to rent out to him. She hates me though & has said I can never be over there or he will have to find a new place to live. Would it be legal if she fired him? If she did fire him b/c he was seeing me, what could he do about it? Also, lately she's been getting mad that he's still seeing me & she'll nag him about it. When she doesn't get the response she wants from him she'll turn it into an argumentabout the quality of his work & how she could find someone better to do his job. If he wanted to move out of her house & she got offended, would it be legal if she fired him?

He wants to move now because of the drama, but is afraid she will fire him. Unfortunately we really were broke when he took the job. Because of that, she owns everything. He still owes her money on his car and the computer he uses to do his work, so without income he'd have no car and no way to get money, which is why he doesn't want to get fired.

As for the relationship... she was operations manager, but started dating the President (who is 30 years older than her, and filthy rich). They got married and she became Vice President. The "big boss" (her husband) lets her do whatever she wants. She has already hired tons of friends and relatives for adminstrative jobs at the company. I guess he is kind of screwed....Thanks guys for your answers!

Employment law varies from state to state and county to county. If you're seriously concerned that your boyfriend is getting setup up to be fired, I would speak with legal counsel.

Regarding the boss: It seems like she is very protective/territorial regarding the gentleman. Either she has feelings for him that are romantic, OR she doesn't think you two are good for each other. Either way, she is trying to assert control over him -- in a working relationship, that sort of behavior is NOT usually acceptable.

Legal? Depends on your state and the laws your company has. But ethical? Definately not.

Most companies forbid any Manager-Associate/Team member relationship. They discourage dating your boss, but it depends on what level you are and the company itself. Legally they CANNOT fire you, they would move you from a certain department or change your schedules whereas not to have a conflict of interest. But if the management/supervisors are jerks, they might find something else to fire you for. That's shady but legal.

unlawful? No, that's regulation. are you able to be fired for breach of contract or misconduct? sure. you're breaking business employer regulations, no longer regulation. in the event that they inform you which you will no longer date colleagues and you do then anticipate to be fired instantaneous while caught. wish that's somewhat worth costing the two one in each of you your jobs. upload: Did you "fall in love" on purpose? No. Did you VIOLATE business employer coverage on purpose? sure. All you may do is end or stop relationship the guy. you already know the regulations and you have the choice to stick to them or ruin them.

contract, contract and contract
so does he have a lease?
the lease has conditions?
he can rent elsewhere..
lots of companies like to have people that "klick"
and you can't blame them..if that is there policy
and ..the only thing that can stop that is a contract..
the guy obvisouly "klicks" with her group
why not try lowering your standards and try to get along..
make a peace offering ... delivery it personally and ask what you have done to offend her.....
or just ask..for another chance...
obviously she (the boss) knows how to kiss butt so why don't you try..to get along..
not saying you obnoxious..but obviously...someone.. "klicks" and someone doesn't..
as far as work and firing... it is their company..
he (your boyfriend) can get along with this group....
think..you should try..it..

i think it would be illegal but it would be hard to prove. maybe your boyfriend should try and find another job before things get worse. sounds pretty bad. good luck
