I dont think it's so much that canadians don't perform well. it's more that a lot of nations are finally catching up with canada and producing great athletes. i'm not a big fan of women's hockey but i was very happy that sweden knocked of the women's U.S.A team at the last olympics.your also seeing more europeans being drafted in the high rounds in the N.B.A as well. The rest of the world is catching up. Also the usa mens team was smoked in the worlds.

The reasons for our players not performing well are many:
1. Favouritism
2. Politics
3. Lack of Patriotic Spirit.
4. Lack of Team-Spirit
these are a few of the reasons.

Ask Indian Hockey Federation and former players. But our players aren't performing as badly as others might think.

Our players are performing well. Even though hockey is our national game Govt. or sponsors are not giving much importance and encouragement as given to cricket.

I'm guessing you're a Canadian - and the reason, if that assumption is true - is easy.

Idiotic moron American owners are willing to pay outrageous amounts of money to take any player with even the faintest chance of being above average... and the salaries involved are so outrageously high that no sane player would turn them down...

Why anyone would pay the outrageous amounts of money involved is open to question - perhaps an analysis of the Yankees baseball team is worth an analysis - as they disgust me and simultaneously win all the time... more bucks more success, more demeaning of professional sports.

It is less glamorous than cricket and hence doesn't attract the best sporting talents in our country. Financially also it is much less lucrative than cricket. And our hockey administrators are an inept lot.

becouse of our government and our sports minister politics and their policy.dear friend there are many talented players in india but they are not getting chance only those who got big influence either by leaders or their finiancial condition is stronge to pay enough money to get selected or if,they are relative of some one who got nice grip in politics or last and importent if they belongs to upper class comunity.only these people are getting chance and those who are poor, non upper caste but talented will not get nay chance, their entire life will spent only in dreaming .,only thing they will get is false assurence from local leader or by the sports concern athourity which is not going to be fulfilld.so you guess how they can perform well if they are selected by politics not by talent.(2)our government is not prmoting hockey and other sports only they are intrested in cricket,India is blessed with full of lands but, dear friend but,we dont have proper grounds to practise and even we dont have grounds for local people to play or practise hockey to become legend. This is all becouse of our government attitude and their policies towards sports and its own people becouse, they are corrupt. all countries have got money budget for sports included india so where this money is going neither we have grounds nor our government is providing or financieng sports asseciries to our players and all our national players finincial condition is zero.government is giving only to certain indivisual games so how our players will perform well they have got lots of tention, first they have to fight to get selected second politics in game by our minister that who will play who will not, their are lots of reasons. I am giving you nice one example of our government corruptness before ending this subject., in air india and indian airlines you will find (please check if you want to) that all the air hostess and other crew member are over aged as per my knowledge air hostess should be unmarried but all they look like married and plus overweight why our airlines athourity is not making them out from the job so other young people can get a chance,I have dout on their sellection may be they are keeping only their relative or those who are coming with influence defenetly some thing but corruption is there.
