Lasik and Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

Largely yes, but if you want to do it, you will need to first get assessed by a laser surgeon - very important to find a good one (experienced, honest and happy to follow-up). If the surgeon says your eyes aren't suitable to do it, then it would definitely be a bad idea to still proceed. Even if your eyes are suitable for laser surgery, just as any surgery, it is not 100% safe, but because laser eye surgery has been around for more than 10 years now, the technology is much better, and the skills of the surgeons are much better too than many years ago. But remember, the risks are there! There are always bad real life stories that do happen.

I only know 2 ppl that had this done. One raved about the surgery and marvelled at how good it worked. The other had major pain after it was done, and apparently they are still waiting to go get it done again.

So, I guess I would have to say that no, it's not entirely 100% reliable. It's a personal decision only you can make after discussions with your doctor and you are aware of all the good, bad, and complications that can arise with any surgery that is performed.

Tough... I've had friends who've had it and raved about how well it worked... totally changed their vision and lives for the positive.

And then I have my personal experience... I had bleeding in the eyes, so I accepted having laser surgery on my 'bad' eye (I figured sacrifice the bad eye, if it worked then do the good eye...) and I still have sparkles in the laser d eye two months later... so I really can't give a positive personal endorsement.

Its pretty much up to your eye doctor, how bad your vision has been impacted, and what the positives might be..

I'm still undecided about getting my 'good' eye lazered...

So I guess we'll see.

Yes, it is very reliable. My brother-in-law had this done, as well as quite a few of my friends. Not one of them has ever had any problems. My brother-in-law had it done about 15 years ago, and he is going to have it done again to one of his eyes. The sight is not so good, so his doctor told him he could have it done again in that eye, without any problems. He would not go through this again, if he was not sure it was the right thing to do. And, my brother-in-law is one of those people who never ever goes to the doctor, has never ever had surgery of any kind, either. But, when it came to his eyes and his vision, he wanted to do whatever he could to protect it and he did. He is very happy with the results, even though the vision in the one eye is bothering him again. He still trusts the procedure enough to have it redone! Best of luck to you! Merry Christmas to you and your family and may you have a Happy, Healthy and Safe New Year!

It's not perfect but it's fairly reliable and predictable. Give it time. If you're interested in procedures such as Lasik, find a surgeon with lots and lots of successful experience. I've been told by a doctor in the business that laser vision correction can be done only if the vision in both eyes is the same. Just passing this on. Bear in mind that as we age, our eyes continue to change and therefore it's not a permanent solution.

"In a 10-year study about laser eye surgery, both LASIK and PRK are safe and effective. The study was presented at the Academy of Opthalmology's 2006 Annual Joint Meeting, the study included 100 eyes for each of the two procedures and what happened 10 years after surgery."(source:http://www.dissectmedicine.com/laser+eye+surgery)

"Those considering laser eye surgery may be heartened by a new study that finds the clearer vision granted by two popular procedures lasts for 10 years or more. Researchers who examined patients a decade after undergoing laser assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and photorefractive keratotomy (PRK) treatments say both procedures provide stable, long term improvement for nearsightedness. The results were presented at the American Academy of Opthalmology's 2006 meeting in Las Vegas by lead investigator Dr. Jorge Alió, chair of ophthalmology at the Universidad Miguel Hernandez in Alicante, Spain. "Our study provides a clear answer to those who doubt LASIK's reliability, showing that both LASIK and PRK are effective for correcting myopia with no long term complications," said Alió."

lt worked for many and the results are good. We have to consider "how bad" the eye ailment is and if it could be treated by laser. Have a second and third opinion from doctors if you have doubts.
