Which version are you playing? PS2, PC or Xbox?
I only know for the PS2. The buttons are R2 and L2 if I remember correctly. (If these don't work try the R1 and L1 buttons)

just scroll your mouse your weapon will be changing. and more over some gta's are different so in my gta scroll will cycle the weapons;

On the pc versiion its by choice I use mouse wheel up or down I assume on ps2 its r1 r2 or one of the buttons.

Press ESC, go with thoughts, go with Controls, go with alter that would provide you a catalogue of controls and permit you to configure it. weapons are oftentimes binded to the F key or the numlock enter key

vice city and gta3 for xbox left or right on the dpad.
and in vice city press down on the dpad to switch to your fist
in san andreas for xbox its the black and white buttons.
in vice city stories and liberty city stories for psp it is also left and right on the dpad
