People tell me Epiphones are crap, they say things like they are made out of chipwood and plastic and they only last a year and stuff, even though the top-range Epiphones cost around $900 the same price as a mexican fender, I own a mexican standard Fender Telecaster and im thinking of buying an Epiphone Les Paul because I gotta admit Telecasters are a bit y'know woussy, you cant really rock out on them. What do you guys think is better qualtie and sound, Top-Range Epiphone or Mexican Fender.

high end les pauls are awesome.....but I have been a fender strat fan myself. the key word is HIGH END, If you are going to be paying 900 dollars for something, you may want to make sure it lasts more than a year! My suggestion (one musician to another)...save your money and buy a serious guitar that fits, your style, your amount of playing (do play shows? or just at home?) and one you like. Not to mention...you can always buy different FX pedels that change it up a little. I never wanted to own a mexican fender tele...

My advice would be to save up a few more hundred and get the real deal. I bought a Gibson Les Paul Classic a couple years ago for about $1400 from my local "real" guitar shop (Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center). Based on what I perceive as your current level of experience and if for no other reason than the resale value, get the real thing!

That being said, I had a Kramer Striker "Imitation Strat" with a Floyd Rose bridge and tremolo that was my favorite for years. If you find a guitar that you really love, THAT is the one for you regardless of price!!

my first bass was an epiphone. it had good tone, and was easy to play. just because a guitar is expensive doesn't mean it's better than everything else. right now i'm playing a 150 dollar Ibanez soundgear 4 string bass that i think sounds better than a 1000 dollar equivalent.
don't let everyone else's opinion become your own.
go with what -you- feel is right.
