Well I just moved to Georgia and I am trying to figure it out still. It seems so different from back home in California. Can someone tell me how it really is and what I should expect?

there will always be racism. humans hate, envy, etc. racism is an easy escape for cowards that allow them to think that an entire group of people can be responsible for the world's wrongs, instead of just accepting that a perfect world would be too boring

as for living in the south - i find that some of the most respecting people live in the south. manners seem to matter more there than in my city...

Racism is still alive, but you don't have to be in the south to find it.
Be in for some culture shock, Georgia is way different from here.
I was born here in Napa, California. I lived in Georgia, Alabama,
and Florida, for many years. So I know there is a real big difference. But no worries, just make it your own. There are good people every where. They will judge you how you judge yourself.
Man Christmas in Georgia...enjoy the great seafood. I could
eat myself to death there. Happy Holidays

I am from Cali myself and have traveled to the south. I have noticed that there is definite racism. So bad you can almost feel it in the air. I was always uncomfortable.

It was so bad that I would go into a fast food restaurant and see it happen in front of me and think why, if you are working behind a fast food counter, are you feeling superior to anyone, no matter what their color?

Chances are that the person ordering their food is making more money and contributing way more to society than you are no matter what their color but you still feel that person is below you because they are black.

Sickening.

I was talking with a friend a couple weeks ago and he had been to South Carolina and had seen the people in the restaurant he was eating in completely ignore a black couple but wait on him while the black couple was waiting for help. He said he had to threaten the staff with leaving if they didn't help the waiting black couple. He said that he almost came to blows with the staff because he couldn't stand that they were ignoring the black couple. This in 2006 (almost 2007).

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?

I moved from the South (La) to the North (NYC) several years ago. And in the South racism is a common mindset. Here in the North racism is more subtle and people who are racists are sometimes easily identifiable. They turn red or pink when they get angry and try to avoid you in any way they can....

As for stated, racism still exists. I ignore ignorance BUT I will stand up for what is right as needed.

Racism isn't just in the South, it's in every state. I was stationed in CA at Moffett Fld and racism was prevalent there too. I lived in San Jose and visited surrounding areas. It's not on every corner per say but we were followed in stores, we were approached by sales clerks when we walked into other stores asking if we needed help but noticed that they didn't ask the caucasian customers the same thing when they walked in. So it's not about the South. Be aware.

First, Welcome to the South, I personally live in Texas. Born and Bred. The difference is the racism is subtle and underhanded. The South is routed in slavery and people here still have these backwards mentalities that hurt us all. Generally people(Caucasians) here expect you to "stay in your place." My advice is to keep your head up and persevere in spite of. The South is the South pure and simple. There are great people here but as with anyplace there are some things that never change.

Last I heard, it had moved to the Northern States. Even the KKK now has their Headquarters set up in the North. Welcome to the New World, a "shifting of the poles" "Meltdown" The Ice is here and the water is on it's way, melting as it puts the home fires out!

DUH... look around its rasism everywhere.. every state every country on the planet..You don't have to look to far...Whites against blacks ,blacks against whites, chinese against americans ,americans against Chinese, asians against whites, whites against asians, look in the middle east..brother against brother.. and the sad thing is no one realises that there is only one true race.. the Human race.. no other substitutes, but no one on this planet will ever know that until we face a total enemy that has to be defeated with us all joining together.Kind of like the movie.. Independence day.. In that situtation we all would know we are only one race.. when you go back to georgia.. things will be the same but if you dont look you will never see them..If you look you dont have to look far but that goes for every race and religion and even same race people that believe differently ..Its a human weakness to be that way and so sad for all those that have experienced it first hand..When i referred to different races here I wasnt harping on any one race ,just making analogies.. but sad but true for all mankind..
