Do you have girlfriends or sister? Start dancing with them. And what makes you think your boyfriend can dance? Most can't.
However awkward you look or feel, he will be worse. Learn together. That's what it's all about. The Hokey Pokey.

Greetings, what a nice decision you have because you have options, options will give a young lady wonderful powers of confidence to move forward in all decision making, now and in your future to come.

And, besides that, decisions give you time for pratice when you are starting out in the world.

In time it is a little bumpy at first, but it just gets better and better with each new
situation that will come your way and some will be more nervious than others.

You will need to ask yourself do you really want to go(?) ...even if you can't dance ...yet.

If you can't dance you need to tell him before you accept his invitation to take you.

Some guys like to know details like this in advance so that if you both show up at the dance he won't be caught off guard when you spring it on him that you can't.

That's showing respect for him...I hope he will recognize it !

If he really likes and respects you and wants to be with only you...its possible that both of you will be at the dance sitting at a table or just standing around and still have a very wonderful evening together and maybe with your friends (including some who may not be able to dance either, who knows...).

There is just something about a good dance that make people want to dance. If he does ask or gently encourages you to dance with him and you feel comfortable with him in doing so, that will not only be a clue for you to try but it will also be your confirmation into your own insight and wisdom about him, that he is truly ...as you say, cute and sweet !

As a Paw Paw of five grandaugthers of my own I wish you the very best and I do hope the two of you have a most memorable evening together.

Bless you, in all that you do...forever.

Wear a pair of strappy sandals with one strap "ready to go". While you are sitting at the table point out that the strap actually "went" but "Isn't it amazing" because you just happened to find thick, sturdy elastic band in your purse. Affix that to your shoe so that it won't fall completely off your foot when you walk back to the car AFTER the dance is over. Repeat this procedure anytime and everytime he asks you out anyplace where dancing may be involved. Bear in mind, though, that you will only get away with this a few times before you will need to "doctor" a brand-new pair of sandals. On second thought, this may end up becoming prohibitively expensive... er... why don't you just ditch the boyfriend right now and save yourself the trouble (and the expense)?!

Let him lead you ( let him think he can be a leader) and try not to bump into other people. And smile. Nice way to discover whether you have a chemistry going there

I had the same problem a few years ago at homecoming. I just told that I didn't really know how. He was fine with it and he just helped me.
