I just bought a new house and chose granite countertops (as an upgrade of course). I've only been in the house for a week and noticed that the kitchen countertops have a seam on the side of the sink that I think is very noticeable and also a seam behind the faucet. Can't the seam be place in a more discreet place so it is not as obvious. Also, the sealer used is quite evident; shouldn't it have been clear or colorless? I need to know how to discuss this with the builder.

There really shouldn't be seams in the first place but if the counter is that big that it has to have seams you should call the builder and tell them you prefer a different color caulk, it will take them less then an hour to strip out the old and install new. As far as the seams go, a good general rule to follow is this. Seams go where two surfaces at different angles from each other meet and no place else. Certainly no where near the sink or faucets. Good luck.

the sealer should be clear, IT just whips on like 409 and whips off. The seams you can macth the color with a marker made to hide the seams, The placement of the seams is right, its done like that for traveling, its in the weakest spots so they don't break. if that made any sense?

Ask now or "forever hold your peace" you might say. This work and, all other work should be brought o his attention right away and refuse to take it. Your right, you shouldn't have to take it.

As a contractor for many years I can't began to tell you the many things people come back on and, how far they'll let thing go before they bring it up.
