It's also why he doesn't care about global warming, he'll be dead by then. So will his illegitimate grandson/granddaughter.

I think somebody purposely chopped of half his idea. The other half could be:
1. As long as people are buying government bonds to keep the bond yield low (right now the bond yield does not beat inflation and taxes, so technically that's free money)
2. As long as the deficit is not too large. Right now the deficit is 3% the size of the U.S. GNP.
3. As long as the debt is used as an investment (it takes money to make money).

He said it because the Republican party has changed sides. They used to stand for lesser government and conservative spending. Now, they stand for more government ( i.e. Patriot Act) and more spending....................thus, our national debt. The Republican's are the ones that have voted in full force of their own salary increases x 3 compared to no minimum wage increase in 10 years? You know it takes a person to earn approx. $17.00 an hour to pay rent in the US on a 2 bedroom apartment. Federal minimum wage is $5.15...........sounds like the tickle down theory to me. The rich get richer.....the poorer get poorer......lovely republican's. Thank you all.

I guess he figures that we can always do like Billybob Clinton did, underfund the military and rape the Social Security Trust Fund to create an artificial balanced budget.

you got a source...like an actual documented transcript of his complete statement?
Sounds like you got a carefully crafted "report" of Cheny's statement all tied up with the usual BS analysis and rants courtesy of CNN, ABC,NBC, wash post, New york times and even yahoo's news page...
funny how those media outfits believe that they need to help the public understand what was said...since the public is too stupid to really "understand" a statement in english...or lacks the attention span tto hear the whole statement so they simply omit the salient content and feed the public what they intend to promote...

Right on. All the war profiteers are feeding at the US trough, and it is all borrowed money they won't have to pay for. They all plan to be long gone when the bill is due. Let the party in Dubai begin!

What he said was that Reagan's popularity showed that the public doesn't really care about deficits.
He's saying we're too stupid to think past the photo-ops.
