1 - Louisiana Purchase was significant
a) Was the afterbirth of the birth of the America's political party system. In that birth, Jefferson ran on a states rights platform, with the central governments rights strictly limited to what was explicitly spelled out by the constitution. But when Jefferson assumed the presidency, he carried out John Adam's platform of a central government that could act on the best interest of the the people. And, even though John Adams did all the heavy lifting, (e.g. averted the war with France, put in motion the diplomatic mission in France that lead to the Louisiana Purchase), Jefferson received all the credit. This pattern has been repeated more than once since 1800. It seems a tragically to me that even though the political party system has been a benefit to the US and is a significant part of why we have last for over 200 years, when you look under the covers it has a very ugly nasty side. I personally don't think its right for John Adams to be so maligned, (and forgotten), when he did so much for us. The United States would not be what it is without him. He is one of the major victims of the dark side of the political party system. Both men were significant in our nations creation, but only one has received appreciation from the country.

b). Was a significant contributor to the civil war by demonstrating one of the weakness of strong state government and a weak central government. Much of the land was located in the south, much of the money came from the North. The south didn't want to pay and strongly resented the North for demanding the south pay their part. This money conflict also happened in the Revolutionary war. Not all the states felt the need to pay their part in paying for the war. How could the United States function as a nation going forward with states enjoying the benefits, but opting out of the payment?

2 - Federalist were concerned about the Louisiana Purchase because:
C – they were concerned about the economic power of the rural West.
Their concern was not without merit. The movement west put serious pressures on the balance of power between the North and the South. There were many political skirmishes during the Republican-Democrats, (Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, & John Quincy), but with the major power shift that occurred when Jackson won the presidency, (and the Democratic party was born), the sectional friction became ever increasingly stronger and more bitter until the civil war broke out and the sectional power struggle was violently extinguished. I personally think the Civil war was horrific and unnecessary. When I look deeper I think it was inevitable and unstoppable from the beginning. People still haven't figured out that selfishness only brings heartache.

I think you really need to go to www.history.com and type in the Louisiana Purchase, and or Thomas Jefferson you will find the facts. These questions are ludicrous as are most history classes they either exagerate or put in their own way of thinking and they generally lack the intelligence of an honest opinion. so do yourself a favor and learn the truth first and then decide for yourself. And the truth is Jefferson could care less about money and his purpose was to strengthen our country, and he was not going to let the French possess any part of this country period.
Lewis and Clark expedition proved that implicitly. And it took a lot of doing to get that purchase pushed through our congress by Jefferson but he was a great Statesman, not a politician.

Well from memory, it was looked at as a very bad move when made. The purchase was made for little money on the acreage at the time but the fear was that it would break the country financially. Most people viewed it as wasted money at the time. Why did we need the land and what good would it do the country? It was looked on as wasted and unusable at the time. As history unfolded, the land was furtile and created a boom in many crops that would eventually keep our country afloat in the long term.

But to answer the question as asked-
1. Some of B, with a little bit of C.
2. B, with a little bit of C.

Much like the Civil War, there are too many pieces of the puzzle to justify a simple multiple choice question to answer the question easily.

B
A or C?

I kind of thought Federalists were more worried about whether or not it was allowed in the Constitution and Jefferson defended his decision with the Elastic Clause, but I might be confusing this issue with the BUS.

I know there was the fear of mobocracy which would support the uneducated masses...but there weren't really masses in the west and they weren't states so they couldn't vote. I don't think they cared about moving. I don't think the West was all that powerful, economically and the West was an open land of opportunity.

Sorry I can't be a great help.

Get lost with your questions, I dont care about your points and if you want to play little teacher go to school.. The French sold the Louisiana territories for 15 million dollars and I am glad we screw you on this deal because we did not know what to do with this huge expanse of land...
