I am. I just feel so horrible about everything in the country right now, and cannot think about Christmas at all this year. The country is in such a mess, and people are really hurting in so many ways, I can't feel cheerful.

maybe that's all the more reason to celebrate Christmas and it's true meaning.

Just remember Christmas is about hope; celebrating the time when humanity's Hope was born into the world. Things didn't immediately get better...but Christmas was a defining moment in history.
Do what you can to make other people's lives better, and you will find this Christmas to be much better than you otherwise would have imagined.

Why dont you focus on YOUR family even if only for the season. The holidays is about spending time with them. I have three family members over in Iraq and lost a close family friend, but we are still celebrating Christmas. Cheer up and smile. You know what will really help? Donate to charities, toys for teens at Best Buy or volunteer directly at local shelters.

every single yr. I start from square one again.....at 1st feelin all down, angry and disgusted.
Then I do a little journaling, thinking about things, and start working outside myself rather than within....realizing that my small part of giving (in any form) is a positive and will add cheer to a person's holiday with love. Also doing a little volunteering to help out the needy--whether it's an animal or person, making a donation to any of the above as well as the rain forest. It doesn't even have to take much. Just as long as giving--
And it doesn't even have to be Christmas to do this. :o)

its not any worse than it ever was, everyone thinks its worse and was much better long ago, well it wasnt, believe me. if you want to feel cheerful look in the face of a little child looking with wonder at all the glitter. religion aside, a small child, is the reason we do any of this i think. if you dont have a small child, there are thousands without anyone who loves them, you can bring one some joy, even if its tranistory. you dont need to feel like celebrating, but if you go and deliver one holiday meal to a shut in, or give a toy to a small child who lives in a shelter , you will find the true meaning of it all.

Christmas should be your one-day escape from the troubles of the world, which will (for the most part) be taking that day off anyway.

Just think of it this way
Christmas is fun
there are holidays, and yummy food, there are so many people helping out in ways, and if you feel so bad about it, why dont you help out 2.

no I'm not instead of christmas presents we share our food with friends and family and donated to charities instead of buying more objects, we bought a little piece of happiness for someone less fortunate

Why so down? - We have not been successfully attacked by terrorists in 5 years and we have a vibrant economy. We are just spoiled, I would say.
