A little obscure, but Bandit King Jing (I think thats what its called. Just look for 'Jing' and it's shiny...). Try some of Ai Yazawa's stuff. Her art is amazingtastic.

Do you know where to get unlicensed manga? It would help if you did. I would recommend:
Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden - The main character is a strong (in strength and will) girl and the main guys is hot! Nevertheless, the plot is brilliant and exciting with action.
Mekasushi No Kuni - In truth, I've only read the first volume of this manga. But, it's great. The artwork is pretty good. But if you look at the cover of vol. 2, it's so gorgeous! It's about a girl who can see people's pasts and futures when she sometimes touches people. She meets a guy who can see into the past. Then, they meet another guy who can see into the future...Yeah, it's great! There are so many different types of genre in this stroy, including romance and feelings that touch your heart. Must read!
Read those, you won't regret it.

Best Manga- Ghost in the Shell (better than the movie but you may need a degree in philosophy to understand the liner notes).
Best US Comic- Preacher by Garth Ennis & Steve Dillon. After Preacher ended (writer wanted a beginning and end) i couldn't read another comic even years later all other comics US or Japanese just pale in comparison.
