YOU WANT TO TAKE THE BATTERY LOSE Be careful if you have air bags, take your horn cover off, take off wheel, take off The snap ring ,then take off your luck plate, There will be a plastic round , i don't know the write name for it , but it works your horn, take that out, take your turn switch out of your way,There will be a screw on the right side, Take out the screw,,, then pull the ignition switch out

i just recently saw this problem on an 03 chevy. the tech was convinced it was the lock cylinder. he replaced it and it made no difference. we took it to a lock smith and he examined it and couldn't figure it out. then just for the hell of it i cut a new key from the key code. guess what? it fixed the problem. apparently the key had worn enough to not fully push the tumblers so the lock bar on the cylinder would move far enough to allow it to turn all the way. the difference in the distance needed to move it was about 1/64th of an inch or less. just by looking at the lock and key, nothing seemed to be worn out. i'd start with a new key cut from code. it is the cheapest thing to start with.

you have to remove the steering wheel. and then a plate that is below. then look for a small bolt that looks like it goes just above the cylinder. remove bolt and turn cylinder to acc and remove.
