First was your mothers father "at Pearl Harbor " on 7 Dec if you don't know go to the VA and request a copy of his service record from them. If you know the he was at Pearl then you contact the Pearl Harbor Survivor's Assoc. they can get you information on the Pearl Harbor Question.

Also finding out about everybody in the navy on every ship in the Navy I think is impossible for one person to do quickly. Some of that information is still Classified and you don't know if this person was on board a ship or had a shore assignment.
Contact the VA get the service records if they survive and start from there then you target the ship or ships or Stations that he served upon. That is the best way to do it.

Yes Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family as well.
You may first try and look up Pearl Harbor on the site www.history.com
Then search and scroll to find all the names of the Ships in Harbor at the time. There should be a crew member list that were on the ship. At Pearl Harbor in Oahu Hawaii, there is a monument and the names are all there as well. Then there is a museum at Fort Derussey in Oahu as well. You can go to the site, www.usgovernment.gov and search catagorically the info you are looking for, through the records in Washington DC.

You can contact the Department of Defense, that is the main office of the military and obtain records. If you can contact a family member first to get info prior to your search.
