1. The Romans, who's creations are still used to this day in our modern homes 3000 years later. (Rem that next time you're on the toilet).
2. The Greeks, who actually conquered, created pharao's, led, and guided the Egyptians. So....Greeks/Egyptian co-cultures but the Greeks nonetheless. (Cleopatra was infact Greek and the last of the Pharaoh's).
3. The highly underated Mayan culture that had the first working and still highly accurate to this day calendar from stellar observation of the heavens.

Well the problem with asking this question is in each well-known time era there was a major superpower. Each major empire fell to another. For instance the Giant Persian Empire conquered the Babylonians with ease, but then Alexander the Great brushed right through them and made the Greeks the superpower. Then after Alexander died, the Roman empire caught afire. They actually ruled in England at one point, who also later became a major superpower. Then from England came the U.S. so it's hard to rank the top 3 empires. Everyone instantly says the Roman empire but they had many political and financial holes in their system which led to a downfall as quick as their rise to power. The Persians lost to the Greeks eventually because of expert tactics and England just lost control of it's territories. My list of dominant empires(in no particular order) would be 1)The Persians 2)The Greeks/Macedonians under Alexander the Great 3) The Romans and 4) The United States of America.

All depends on what you call the "biggest"
According to modern research the Empire of the Incas can be regarded as one of the largest empires of its time (pre conquest). See the book:
"1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus", by Charles C. Mann
By the way - some would claim the the United States today is essentially a world empire

China was huge and a very strong Empire but they kept to themselves basically, had an enormous effect upon Persia, and India as well. Without China the Persians would not have had the gold, the silks, the herbs or the education to do anything. Egypt was the obvious with their great decades of Pyramids and conquests. And last but not least The Roman Empire was the result of many years of conquest to civilize in their way the other territories and they branched out everywhere, including the design of the Senate that exists in the US.(Julius Caesar)

once you communicate of the 'Creeping' artillery fire on the Somme it replaced into no longer perfected as of yet, in some places there replaced into none and a few troops have been even advised to stroll to the German Trenches. this could be a lesson found out from the Somme. the better command replaced into getting comments of fulfillment on in specific part of the front so 'over the acceptable' adult adult males went. there replaced into additionally a political factor. The French replaced into bleeding to dying on the conflict of Verdun. The French replaced into desperate and mandatory Haige to attack. some felt the recent military replaced into no longer waiting yet yet whilst Verdun fell then that's a gamble that France could fall so all militia and civilian leaders believed. IF the British stopped their assaults too quickly then the German could have(only hypothesis) strengthened the Verdun conflict. 1916 replaced into basically an insignificant twelve months for slaughter and the bleeding went on
