Have tried both ice and heat...and here is what I have found.
Depending on how deep the wax had gone into the carpet:
1. Surface only..... place heavy duty paper towel on top and place a low to medium setting iron on top....dabbing it. The idea being
to melt the wax which will, in turn, be absorbed into the paper.
2. If deep into carpet, use ice first to freeze, then take a sharp
tool to prick up the wax gently trying not to damage the fibers.
When most has been gotten up, then proceed with step 1.
3. Very hot soapy water should get remainder up.

Both the hot and cold methods work but the stain from the oil in the wax may be a bigger problem. There are commercial products that do work on the left over residue and the oil stains. Read the labels or ask a carpet cleaning specialist. Check your carpets colorfastness in a closet or covered area. Good luck.

If it's wax from a candle (not leg wax)....get paper towel and your iron.
Turn the iron up to really hot, make sure the steam is off, place the paper towel down on top of the way and iron on top of the paper and keep doing this replacing the paper until it is all soaked up
Merry Christmas!

I totally disagree with the answers already given. Get some
ice cubes and get the wax very hard and frozen if possible.
then take a fork or stiff brush and pick it until it all comes out.
Be sure to vacuum it up so it doesn't get ground into the
carpet fibers.

if it is a candle wax then peel it off or bend the carpet it will break and flake off if it is any other wax use mild diluents like acetone and locally apply for if they reach other place then chances of color fading is there even diesel or petrol can dilute wax as it is also a petro product

Take a hair dryer in one hand and a paper towel in another. Move the hair dryer on the wax till it melts and when it does quickly wipe it off.
