NPA is the New People's Army in Philippines.

The guerrilla arm of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), an avowedly Maoist group formed in December 1969 with the aim of overthrowing the government through protracted guerrilla warfare. Although primarily a rural-based guerrilla group, the NPA has an active urban infrastructure to carry out terrorism; uses city-based assassination squads called sparrow units. Derives most of its funding from contributions of supporters and so-called revolutionary taxes extorted from local businesses.

NPA is in disarray because of a split in the CPP, a lack of money, and successful government operations. With the US military gone from the country, NPA has engaged in urban terrorism against the police, corrupt politicians, and drug traffickers.

The strength of NPA is estimated at several thousand.

Its Location/Area of Operation is Philippines, primarily Manila.

The New Peoples Army (NPA) is the armed movement of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPA). The CPA is an outlawed party in the Philippines. Unlike the Muslim insurgents, they do not engage in tourist kidnappings. For the past 20 years they have not kidnapped any white/asian tourists at all. Most of these NPA only engage with the Philippine military and extort money from farmers and local business men to raise funds. The Communist Party leader, Jose Maria Sison lives in the Netherlands in exile. If his party allows such kidnappings, he will surely be booted out of that country and find himself living in an airport terminal. Besides the Communist Party of the Philippines has not much support from countries like China or even Vietnam who are already becoming more capitalist than communist.

The NPA or the New People's Army is the militant arm of the Communist Party of the Philippines whose leader is Atty Jose Maria Sison now exiled in the Netherlands.

Basically the NPA can be found in the rural areas of the country where their support is strong. It is hard to eradicate them because they hide in the forest and mountain areas.

Now the government is going after the rebel group in the provinces and claims that the group is significantly weaker now. They also claim that support for them is lesser now and becoming unpopular.

The fundings are from supporter and money they extorted from local businesses and people.
