depression doesnt mean sadness.

I have depression and it comes from things not being where i want them in life just yet. Wanting to get there faster than is possible.

Am i sad im not there yet? No, but it makes me unhappy.

Depression can also come in the form of missing out on activities, losing desire to do things - so your answer is yes, you can be depressed without sadness.

Actually, yes. For one, many people describe the WORST part of depressive episodes being the times when they don't feel sad because they don't feel anything at all. Also, I've noticed at the beginning or end of an episode, it's possible to notice the physical symptoms (changes in sleep / energy and appetite) without necessarily feeling the emotional symptoms.

Yes, especially in men. Women were thought to get depressed twice as often as men, but now that's being questioned. Men don't fit the usual description in the early stages. They get irritable and angry, have problems with others at home and on the job, or they can get obsessed with work or hobbies. Or go the other way and just seem lazy and careless. Also, there's self-medication with booze or drugs. Ultimately, they kill themselves at four times the rate women do, which is a sure sign that men are under-diagnosed. Depression is so tied to the sad and crying stereotype that a counselor once told me he had to argue men into realizing they were depressed, once he figured it out himself.

Depression is not always sadness. I have GAD. Generalized anxiety disorder. Because I am always so stressed it causes depression but I'm not "sad" Unmotivated, tired and sometimes physically sore or tired but not sad really. So the answer is yes you can be depressed without "feeling" sad. It can be a chemical imbalance in your brain. See a professional.

Not unless you're actually a button...

kidding... Thought I'd try and make you feel better?

Depression comes in many shapes, sizes and forms. There is a full spectrum of misery that is cast as a result...

Either way... depression sucks... just as much if not more than just plain old every day average sadness... One does not require the other to be just as horrible...

Yes. Depression and sadness are not synonymous with each other. Depression can be as simple as a feeling of blandness or boredom in one's day-to-day life; leading to discontentment and.. depression.
