Most people are of the opinion that anybody who attends a protest should be at work, so if they're on a protest march or demo, why aren't they - and then, if they're not working, it is automatically assumed that they are amongst the "great unwashed", therefore add some soap to the water cannon. It's an easy path to walk!

These kinds of comments are O.K. until you are forced into the position that you must make a protest. I never went on any protest marches and I was a teenager in the 60's. However I felt I had to make some kind of protest against Britains involvement in Iraq and went on the massive demo a few years ago.

The comment also paints protestors as dirty and unwashed; the people on the demo I was on were just; well people but not at all dirty.

I think they should plump up the water with Happy Juice. Then the protesters can spray some back on those who are cussing them out!

Not worth getting in a lather about, cos it's a very weak joke. As long as you think our leaders are right all the time, and never perpetrate any kind of injustice, then do ridicule protesters, because you yourself will never need to protest about anything.

Or they could put some detergent in the cannon's watertanks, the way we do in our cars' washer-bottles.

Douglas Adams was right - never go anywhere without your towel.

Why stop there, why not put some gasoline in the cannon.
