"making you smarter" and strengthening your memory are not the same.
i have the game in question, and i'm quite pleased with it.
it aids in strengthening your memory, by way of small puzzles. throughout the course of like 2 weeks, all of the games eventually get unlocked, and you constantly compete against yourself, and other files on the game.
the idea behind the game is that constant work helps build synapses or something, and aids in other tasks that involve memory, recognition, estimation, etc...

It wont make you smarter, but it can help you learn. Think of it this way.
If you do nothing all day except watch tv then try to learn something new in math it probably will be or hard.
If you spend all day playing puzzles and excersize your brain. To learn something new will come more easy because your brain will be used to it.
For example if your in school when is it easier to remember something. After the Weekday or After a summer break.

im not sure it can make you smarter but its possible since things that make you think especially in new ways do start more neural pathways growing, so it is quite possible , but it can surely get your thinker to dust itself off and it helps memory and speed of calculation, so i would think it would be worth the price. I understand there is a web based program like that for computer that doesnt need any disks or game machines i think the guy said the name of it was Posit. like in positing a question. good luck

It can make you better at puzzles, that's about it, I imagine.
Of course, brain teasers and the such are one of the best ways to prevent Alzheimer's.
