We would truly achieve world peace if everyone believed it could happen and if everyone truly wanted it (collectively). Im sure everyone says they want it, and I'm sure that consciously, they all do, but who can deny that if there was peace in the world most ppl would lose their jobs (like missile fabricants)? Even if these ppl might think they want world peace, something inside them, their subconscious, knows of the consequences world peace wud have on them and their lives and this makes them 'not want it'.
Plus if people don't believe in world peace, odds are they don't care if we have it or not which eventually leads to them not really wanting it. So because these people don't want it they are keeping the rest of the world from experiencing true peace.
Therefore, if everyone wanted and believed in world peace, we could achieve it.
And i have no doubt in the world that we could do it in an instant (literally).

There is a lot of negativity in most answers so far. It is that negative saying it is impossible that prevents it from happening. As long as love is considered a feeling alone and its opposite hate with the attending anger and revenge it will be impossible.
The view of love as an act by the churches and people instead of the "touchy-feely" sentimentality they dish out would help. This is a belief that even if one is very angry with someone he or she can still act with good will toward them and that act is an act of love. It takes courage; so does forgiveness. Forgiveness is largely ignored in international and national politics. Instead they seek revenge.
Revenge is not a basic emotion it is learned. It is rampant. Whatever happened to the peace corps? If as much had been spent on that organization as has been spent on producing arms and weapons and the military we might have a chance for world peace. As long as courage packs a gun and considers that strength and does not stand up in an act of unarmed love for its enemies and prevail there will be no peace. That latter takes real courage.

well, have you ever seen the rain? world peace just isn't possible. sorry I'm sure if people didn't have that outlook there might be something better in the world, but it is simply true and undisputed.
