my parents divorced a few years ago and rarely talk, and by that i mean never.a few weeks ago both my mom and my dad asked me what i would like for christmas. i told both i wasn't hoping for anything special (im told that i am hard to shop for), but listed a few things, including a digital camera. I didnt think anything of the conversations i had with them about it. a week ago my mom said she was going to buy me a digital camera, but wanted me to pick it out, which i did (just received in mail, very happy with it). my sister found out my dad got me a camera also. now i don't know what to do. I don't want to tell him my mom got me one, it may seem wierd but i do. i don't want two cameras . but i dont want to insult my dad. what do i do?
btw he will want me to open it on christmas and take pictures and whatever, so an excuse to not open it right then will work, and i can take it back and hope he doesnt remember which kind he got me! (im pretty good at the excuses, no ideas yet though.)ty

Politely and genuinely thank them both.

Sell the other one on ebay or whatever.

You have to be honest with him. Personally, I'd wait till I opened it. Wouldn't want Dad to know sister told what you were getting.

When you open it, tell Dad, "Mom gave me a camera a few days ago. Can you take this back and exchange it?" And then give him a few suggestions about what else you'd like.

Not your fault that they don't talk. And, incidents like this are bound to happen simply because they don't talk. You don't have to worry about not wanting to tell Dad the truth. In fact, you owe it to him. I repeat, NOT your fault!

open them both, but make sure at least one box or packing isn't so damaged that you cannot take it back.

Whomever, you live with, tell them you need the receipt as something is wrong with it and you need to exchange it.
RETURN it. They will not know which is which and you don't need to explain it if they other doesn't know either.

same thing works if they are different cameras too...
you need the receipt for whichever you like the least.
Just in case as cameras are finicky etc....
and then return it or get a credit to use for something you need.
(like camera accessories ;)

Just take one back and exchange it for some camera accessories. Write them both a separate thank you note for the camera and equipment.
Or have your sister hint to your dad you already got a camera and maybe he could give you a gift certificate for accessories.

Keep one in your home for pictures of family and friends there and the other one keep in your vehicle for when you are away from home.

If your parents rarely speak do not see why the concern.

Perhaps your sister could mention that you got a camera from your mom too, since you had shared the list with both of them. this would give him a chance to exchange it without further complication.

Try returning your mom's camera if you have a receipt. and maybe choose another gift for yourself. Then if you mom ask you about the camera show the camera your dad gave you. It'll only work if they are the same cameras though. Try that.

First, tell your father, that if you dont have your mother, you couldn't came to this beautiful world, and you dont have a wonderful life like now, so first recieve your mother's gift; and second, tell your father that you love him, he gave you the greatest power to develop yourself, understand what is life, and so you recieve your father's gift at second. Then you should say, I love you, I cannot life in this world without you both, and hug them.
