Its not a new thing..Also Missisippi and Alabama and the same thing..All you have to do is just take a ride through the are pre and post katrina and ask.. or look..you would never have to look to far to find homeless and starving and not only the south ..almost every state..I could never figure out why we are spending so much money to save the world when we aren't even saving our own people.. Guess thats life ..

There will be homeless and starving ppl everywhere forever. Bums have been around since the days of the Anicent Greeks and Romans.
Some in Louisiana are too proud to go to the provided shelters, some are too stupid to get a job offered to them within the city, and others are, again, too stupid to go to a city outside of New Orleans to find a job.

Lots of reasons, most political.
This is a traditionally not affluent State, which often produces Politicians with silver spoons that do not know or care about the plight of the States Poor. The police department is sort of laughably corrupt and has been for generations, Im not saying there are not good cops in NO, but.......I am saying that corruption in the police department is long standing and systemic.
As to why.............look at all the (no bid) contracts given by homeland security in the wake of Katrina. Follow the trail.
Corruption in NOT did not start nor will it end with the Police.

Duh....... the better question is why are there so many homeless and starving people all over the United States, the richest country and strongest country in the world?
The answer is because we r too busy minding other countries business before taking care of our own.
Billions and billions are spent on war and space while hundred of thousands of homeless lay their heads in the streets or shelters through-out the United States and many more go to bed with an empty stomachs especially our own children, why, why, why, it's incomprehensible? Tell me what do we do about this?

Because the city of New Orleans decided that the most important thing was to rebuild their football stadium then help their citizens. The first year after the storm, all the money and efforts went to rebuilding a stadium while people starved and died in the streets without a home to live in.

Because as if living through Hurricane Katrina wasn't bad enough. As if, surviving days in the Superdome wasn't enough. The government pulled the rug from under the citizens of New Orleans. As if it wasn't bad enough the New Orleans housed quite possibly the highest unemployment rate in this country with more than half of the population living below or at the poverty level, just when they needed the federal government and FEMA the most--the government turned it's back on them. It's kinda hard to start over when you have absolutely no where to begin.

I flatly disbelieve that any non-mentally ill person is starving in the State of Louisiana or anywhere else in the US for that matter.....
A whole series of studies have found that the most common nutrition-related disease among the US underclass is obesity.
Got it? That's O-B-E-S-I-T-Y, not starvation.

Because, according to a recent news article, the United States spent 3.3 BILLION on war and are planning on spending more money, their concern is not for the people, little help goes out to them.

They chose to be. They have had everything thrown their way. If they chose to squander it or simply to just not take the help, there is nothing even the most tender hearted liberal can do about it.
