I was reading some of the others answers and am not surprised by the insensitivity. This is why being black is such a struggle. This is why the struggle will continue. Many people are so blind to what is evident. IGNORANCE IS BLISS...they say. We have many people (mainly whites) that deny such a struggle even exists. This is mind boggling. If you are white or apart of any other ethnic group that does not agree that being black is a struggle, I ask you to take a look around you. You dont even have to be in the U.S. to see it. Ask yourself who is in power in your nation, and worldwide? There has not been a country on this earth that whites have not conquered, stolen, took over by force or dominated at some point. Even if the country is not ran by white now, I can guarantee you that they have left their imprint some way some how. Even if whites are not physically present, they are however present. Look at the media, leaders, goverments only to name a few. Who is in power? Who do you see? White ideas are forced upon the entire world. This means that being black or any other race of color, means being dominated and often degraded. There is nothing about domination that doesnt cause a struggle for those who are not in power. This is why being black or any other so called minority group IS A STRUGGLE. Only look around you...it is as simple as that.

Your question is an example of part of the problem. You used the same racist color generalization to identify people of African descent. I am African American. If I were to be identified by a color it would be brown skinned. Black is used to describe negative actions or occurrences and is associated with evil and coldness. Think about that the next time you say or hear someone say I am black instead of I am African American. As for it being a struggle don't forget where the problems for us as a people started. Once we got over the hurdle of the slave trade and begin to come into our own the fear of our power to overcome and succeed kicked in and everything was done to keep us down. None of it worked and we've come far but the stigma is still there and always will be. The strength that we have to survive with all that we go through is a banner for the future and some folks can't handle that and they act out. We get blamed for the crime rate, it's said we overwhelm the welfare system, and it's just not true. As a people we are singled out. Anything to make us continue to look like a problem will get put into place to justify the treatment that we get, You've heard of racial profiling I'm sure.

You are definitely asking the wrong question. Why is being a human being such a struggle? Would it be worth anything if it was not?

Fredrick Douglass once said that "without struggle there is NO progress."
All races struggle. One thing we have to start doing is thinking on higher terms. Be thankful for the things that we have and work smarter towards the things that we want. It all comes.
Our struggle has made us stronger people. And today our tenacity has made us who we are, God's chosen people.
Love the struggle..it is a journey with a great reward in the end.

Try being deaf (but can hear with a cochlear implant and speak pretty well) and living in a town where people seem to be super picky about deaf people cause they've never seen a deaf person before.... now that's a struggle!!!
But really, I think EVERYONE struggles.... even the ones that seem to have no problems.

It's a matter of environment. You don't like it move somewhere else and do something better with your life. Sounds harsh, but that's the way it is for everyone.
