The doctor says he is not overweight but everyone is making me worry, I am about 5'9" and my hubby 6'1" I am chubby after having him and my husband is slim. Should I worry about his weight and height, is it about right for his age?

I wouldn't really worry about being overweight until the baby is two years old, especially when both of you are tall.
I think rather than comparing the weight to the average baby, try comparing it to his own height.

Ask the dr again for assurance- I read sometime ago in USA Today that dr are reluctant to say that someone's baby is overweight because it opens a whole new discussion and might complicate the matter. So, unless the baby really needs attention on his/her weight, most pediatrician will keep quiet on it. So on the next dr visit, see how he grows and make sure he is doing fine.

My son weighs 20lbs and is 28 inches long. He's 5-month-old. I was worry that he's overweight too, based on what people said, but his dad is 6'4" so, the dr told me not to worry.

I don't know what his weight should be at that age. I know my daughter was 30 lbs at 3 years old. I do believe she was 2 weighing 24 lbs. If the doctor says he is fine I guess I wouldn't worry too much. Although, there has been a study that says overweight babies are more likely to become overweight later.

I wouldn't worry too much as long as the doctors are ok... babies will go through so many growth spurts- just wait a couple more months, he will slow down fast... and probably spurt up higher. My son is 14 months old and weighs 26lbs... and he's tall too... but my husband is 6'2 and very skinny- I am 5'3 and petite, so I am thinking since he's 95% in height and always has been, he will be like his daddy.... he's gone down in weight as well. Anyways, the doctors will let you know definitely if your baby is in a bad range... but for now, don't worry! He'll get a growth spurt and get taller, and that will balance him out :)

Take care, Happy Holidays!

I would follow the doctor's advice.

I've had three children, and I must tell you that from 3 to 11 months they were all little balls of lard. I would get all sorts of reactions from people. By the time they turned 1 and started walking the weight came off as if by magic. Soon I was worried about them being too thin.

It's ok for moms to worry I do it all the time and I am sure a whole other moms do to.

Mine weighs 18.9 pounds, 26 inches long, and only 6 months. I can imagine what she'll be at 9. She isn't considered overweight. Don't worry, babies usually lose a little weight as they get older and move around more anyways. :-)

My son was huge as a nine month old baby. Once they start walking and running, they slim down. If you start them out eating right and playing (to burn calories), they'll be fine. Genetics does play a role, but he's a baby. He can't go on a diet. My son looked like a baby sumo...now he's three and slim as ever. Plus their eating habits change as they get older...they become more picky.

How active is he? If he is not interested in crawling. My boys really slimmed down after crawling and especially walking. Make sure he has the floor to move around on. Your doctor can tell you if he is still on the growing curve. I wouldn't worry about it yet. Just enjoy him!

Chubby babies are cute...My son was about the same when he was born? If he drinks formula...that could be a reason they tend to be a little larger than breastfed infants...like everyone else says...if the doctor isn't worried....you shouldn't either..

If the doctor isn't worried, you shouldn't be either. Mine weighed 22 pounds and was 28 inches at nine months.
