I know when you get a down comforter it has a "smell" What is the best way to get rid of the smell, just let it air out?? How long will it take for the smell to go away. Also would it hurt it to put it in the dryer with some fabric softener sheets??

I am not sure about the dryer, but you could try putting it in a large plastic bag with a sprinkle or so of baking soda then shaking it up a bit and letting it sit for a while. a couple hours should do the trick.

It took mine a little while to get rid of the smell, or maybe I just kept thinking I could smell it. I took my down comforter to the laundrymat and used one of their big dryers with more than a few dryer sheets. After that it smelled like flowery feathers for a while, but it did seem to help.

You CAN wash down comforters if you have a big enough washer. Use some Gain and/or some fabric softener. You shouldn't smell anything but the soap after that.

Spray your comforter with a linen spray, lavender perhaps, or, yes, fabric softener sheets, or the well-known Febreeze, set the dial to "delicate" or "air only" and allow your comforter to fully air out for 30 minutes. Also, cover your comforter with a cover that you can launder once a week for freshness. This is also great for pillows once a week!

No it won't hurt it to put it in the dryer for a few minutes.
you can even wash a down comforter just don't use the agitation cycle.
let it soak in soapy water, swish it around with your hands a bit, spin dry, rinse/no agitate add liquid fab softener, spin, toss in the dryer with a can of fresh clean tennis balls.
at least 3 but 4-5 would be even better.
tumble dry.

It shouldn't smell like that. If there is any smell it would only be from the bag. More than likely if it came from Ross it was probably used and then washed. I would either get your money back or exchange it for another and make sure you open it up and smell it before you pruchase again. I doubt that the dry cleaners can do anything. Once you get the feather wet inside there could be mildew growing-yuck. Whenever you buy from discount places like that you need to thouroughly check it over and open it up before purchasing.
