Back in the hayday of 8 track tape players, I actually had a quadraphonic tape player in my car. "Quad" tapes were hard to come by, and I only had 2...one of them by Arlo Gunthrie.
Remember how after awhile, they started dragging and you had to shove a matchbook under the tape to get it to play?

Yeah. Cool memory. I liked the different colors. Remember how, if the tape got loose or pulled out, you could give it a slight yank and it would retract back into the shell? My least favorite memory was hearing "part one" of a song, and then when the track switched, "part two". The 8-track came from the Lear Jet people if memory serves me correctly. (Jeez, I think I was released from a drop of dried amber!)

My grandfather in the 70's had a great type of 8 music tape and performed them in his truck. I enjoyed listening to Johnny funds and Merle Haggard. whilst going for a trip with my Grandfather and sister.

Yup, I like Alice's Restaurant ... ... my first 8 track tape was Double Platinum

Then, I had to use tooth picks to stop the drag.

I'm not that old haha, but my parents still have them they have a ton and we also have two 8 track players. One still works. Those things are pretty ugly.

you just made me remember how old I am!!!!!!!
your name reminded me of something I saw at Knott's Berry Farm when I was a kid, there was a stable with a purple cow (moo) under a sign with the following bad poem:
I've never seen a purple cow
I hope to never see one
But I can tell you this right now
I'd rather see one than be one

Yes, it was a bad design that never got any better and went out faster than it came in.
