My galley kitchen has several cupboard doors, each is covered in natural Jarrah (a dark West Australian hardwood) veneer. The cupboards are at least 10 years old with just a few water splash marks here and there.

Rather than just replacing the doors all together using modern synthetic laminates, how else can I bring back the life to my cupboard doors? I have experimented with vegetable oil in a few places and the results are okay but I need something more durable.

Could I use diluted linseed oil perhaps? Any other ideas or suggestions please?

You could try linseed oil but you may want to try a furniture product that contains orange oil. I used Pledge orange ...not just spray cleaner(or furniture polish)- on dark, marred & scratched cabinets in a client's home & they turned out beautifully.

Try "Tung" oil in what ever gloss you want, go to a paint store like "Sherwin-Williams" and use a cloth like a "cheese cloth" You can get this from Wal-Mart in the craft department or the material department.

I've used "Tung" oil with good results after trying several in the Southwest in wood doors that were in the sun all the time. Although they needed treatment regularly like every several months due to the drying conditions it still worked good.

Murphy's Oil Soap cleans up wood rather nicely.
